Final stage: Getting ready NOBEL GRID services and tools

Image-3On 26th-28th NOBEL GRID consortium has celebrated its first General Meeting of 2018 in Lisbon, hosted by UNINOVA, in order to discuss results and get every product and service ready by the end of the project – June 2018. 

Since 2015 NOBEL GRID has been working on the development, integration and real demonstration of new services to be provided to all the actors of the electricity distribution grid and market. This will include services for next generation distributed renewable energy integration and active demand response.

Three different applications will be developed for the different actors like the Grid Management and Maintenance Master Framework for DSOs (G3M Framework), the Energy Monitoring and Analysis App for domestic and industrial prosumers (EMA App) and the DR Flexible Market cockpit for aggregators, ESCOs and retailers (DRFM cockpit).

The Project is also working on innovative solutions to lower the cost of the development and deployment of smart metering systems. Thus it will address this action at three different levels: promoting and testing the concept of an Unbundled Smart Meter (USM), developing and testing a new Smart Low-cost Advanced Meter (SLAM) and interfacing with Smart Home Environments and Building Management Systems (BMS).

All these actions will be deployed and tested at large scale in five different sites in five EU members’ states (Belgium, Greece, Italy, Spain and United Kingdom)

EXPECTED RESULTS

  • Development and demonstration of innovative solutions and tools to improve medium and low voltage electricity distribution networks,providing secure,stable and robust smart grids allowing DSOs in presence of very large share of renewables.
  • Development, integration and real demonstration of new services to all the actors of the electricity distribution grid and market.This includes services for next generation distributed renewable energy integration and active demand response.Three different applications will be developed for the different group of actors.
  • Design,development and demonstration of innovative and advanced smart metering solutions that provides services and functionalities for all the Smart grid actors,with special attention to final customers. 

EXPECTED IMPACT

  • Improvement on quality of life for EU citizens by enhancing the EU energy mix,with the reduction of the emissions
  • Efficient and fair distribution of the benefits on the electricity distribution to all actors
  • Active participation of prosumers,and new players in energy markets (aggregators and ESCOs)
  • Opening new markets for advanced smart grid and smart metering to foster EU industries’ competitiveness.
  • Promoting the implementation of new policies,market rules and legislation for smart grids and smart metering.
